Grow Your Local Influence

Kris Wassell • February 16, 2022

Become more visible in your local city or town, help build your brand, & increase your sales opportunities.

Whether you are a new business or one that is well established in your area, the same problem will be present. How do I increase my brand influence and exposure? This question is a big part of every business and needs to be addressed constantly. It can be easy to get stuck in a marketing rut where you keep putting out the same ideas and get low returns when it comes to new customers or inquiries. RevLocal focuses on local search and digital marketing and reported that 75% of Google searches for local solutions to individual’s product and service needs lead to brick-and-mortar visits within 24 hours. As many businesses are seeing a rise in a support local mentality from consumers, it is important to be part of this idea and utilize your marketing towards it.

A recent study has shown that 70% of consumers support local business, primarily to keep money in their area. Here are a few ways to make this data work for you.

Join professional organizations

many new businesses don’t realize that they are able to join their local chamber of commerce or business association. This is a great way to get listed in a book of local businesses which can be sent out or viewed online by customers and other businesses that ay need your service. This is a great way to get to know other local business owners who may help spread your name.
Sponsor Local Events – Put your name front and centre by sponsoring local events such as local parades, fundraisers, farmer’s markets, sports teams, or tourism attractions. This is a good way to show you support the community and those who attend the events will remember how you were committed to help them. There are also times when your town or city may need sponsorship to hold bigger events which can draw in media attention and your brand will be seen by potential customers from surrounding areas that are attending the event.

Volunteer your space and time

There are times when you can volunteer your building or even parking lot to help with a local cause or event. These are low-cost ways to get your business noticed and will give you an opportunity to meet and greet with new or existing customers and build that relationship. By holding a food drive or offering your parking lot for a car show or charitable event, you will be the star location for many community members to gather and notice your business without pushing there with sales offers.

Focus on digital marketing

Putting out digital marketing seems like an obvious answer to any marketing problem, but many businesses don’t bother with it saying what they have already works, or it will cost too much. Sometimes all it takes is making a social media post about a local event that you had attended or supported, writing a blog about something your business focuses on, or simply allowing your customers shop or talk to you online. The most important part of digital marketing is having a website that your customers can visit. A Facebook page can be good but having a website with your information, pictures, services, and products can be a way to showcase your business and show customers what they will experience when they come to see you.

Using a combination of all these practices will increase your brand awareness and lead to an increase in repeat customers and new customers who will reach out for the first time. This will take time and some practice but once you have a plan you will find that these are easy things to do and keep up with and you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
